Solo time and other great things

This past Sunday was a red letter day for me, and my friend, Sandy. Sandy plays the piano at church, and I direct the music. This week we each got to do a first. Sandy played the big pipe organ while I sang a solo - "O Holy Night". By the comments we heard, we did great (Ah, how often does one hear, 'you did awful' - haha)
Now, that was expected, but there is more. I invited my parents to come hear me sing - AND - they did. My parents go to church every Sunday, but this was a first for them, as they came to my church for a Sacrament meeting. Their first time for an LDS Sunday service. This is HUGE.
And, to top it off, there was a High Councilor who came up from the stake for stake business, and when the Sacrament meeting was over, he asked Dave and I if we would accept a stake assignment. Granted, we sort of expected it - and the call was just extended. Dave and I will be the camp cooks at Girls' camp. That is, the head cooks. I've had the assignment before - but in a totally different venue. That was when we were in the Montpelier Stake, and I had to cook over a campfire. Then I only cooked for adults- 20 to 30 of them.
It's strange to say that this current assignment will be easier - but I think it will. I need to cook/plan for 125-150, three meals a day for five days. Two of those meals really will only be for 25-30. This year we have a commercial kitchen, and Dave& I have worked in it before. At least that part I know what we're in for.
The hardest part will be figuring out the menu and ordering the food. I've already some ideas - that's (part of) why I knew the call would come. I've been thinking of various meals for camp over the last few weeks.
So, big day last Sunday. The solo was the first one for our little branch. We've done small groups, and I was even in a duet before. Sandy's practiced the organ and a few people heard her - but, most didn't know she could do it. If I was younger, and the venue was different, I would say we "rocked".

Veteran's Day 2009

Mike and I went to Wayne's Lanes for pizza and bowling in honor of Nate F.'s birthday. There was quite a crowd. Ten bowled, and more just sat around visiting. Dad and Mike J. worked on the siding on the back side of the house and are now up to the bottom of the second floor bedroom windows. The weather is cooperating - especially this late in the season.
Later, we went into Colebrook so Mike could try to sell poinsettias, wreaths, and kissing balls for his school class's fundraiser. Fortunately he had some success. It kills to try to sell door to door and get rejected. I told Mike to hit the businesses that would tend to decorate, as the locals are having it hard enough this year.
Yesterday we moved "stuff" out of the upstairs kitchen to make way for a house office and place for my genealogy projects. It felt good to move around in that room again - but there is still alot of work to do. Like, um, clean... and power, and a phone line - good stuff lol.
